6. Postdoctoral Position in Optical Nanoscopy

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

The recently introduced MINFLUX (Balzarotti et al., Science 2017) and MINSTED (Weber et al., Nature Photonics 2021) concepts have unlocked the door to minimally invasive, low-light-level analysis of the structure and the dynamics of macromolecular assemblies (e.g. Gwosch et al., Nature Methods 2020) in living cells in 4D at the nanoscale. The unprecedented capabilities available in the department include experiments at 1-nm resolution.

The project aims at unraveling structure-function relationships and molecular mechanisms by developing appropriate sample preparation methodologies and imaging strategies suitable for data acquisition using the latest nanoscopy approaches such as MINFLUX. Sample design will be performed in close collaboration with the organic chemists and physicists from the Department of Optical Nanoscopy at the MPI for Medical Research.

11. Postdoctoral Position in Constructing Urban Futures in Asia

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

Growing prosperity and ongoing rural-urban migration have been feeding an unprecedented building boom across the cities of East Asia, Southeast Asia and South Asia, sometimes coupled with a renewed appreciation of cultural heritage. Not only is the boom transforming political economies; it will also create the signature metropolises of our century and challenge Euroamerican hegemony over notions of the urban.

The new focus group will concentrate on the professionals in planning, architecture, construction and conservation, as the people most centrally placed to shape urban futures in Asia, and will investigate their ideals, concerns, strategies and compromises when dealing with the multiple political and economic actors involved in construction and with general challenges such as climate change. Researchers are expected to conduct in-depth ethnographic fieldwork and to contribute to theoretical and methodological innovation in anthropology, urban studies and adjacent fields.

Application Deadline: 15 January 2023

12. Postdoctoral Position in Glycomics and Glycoproteomics

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

Glycosylation is an important modification of proteins and is involved in the regulation of the biological activity and stability of many proteins. Notably, the glycosylation of many eukaryotic proteins appears to be highly regulated and minor structural changes of the glycan portions may lead to major changes in function. Therefore, protein glycosylation analysis is becoming increasingly important in medical/clinical, biopharmaceutical, as well as biotechnological research.
